Opened in 1843, this sandstone pub is one of Sydney’s oldest and carries a dark legend: a secret tunnel leading from its cellar to Darling Harbour, allegedly used to smuggle drunken sailors into forced service. Patrons and staff tell of apparitions near the tunnel entrance, phantom piano music in the upstairs rooms, and a shadowy figure said to be the ghost of a woman pushed down the cellar stairs.
