Nahuelito – Argentina
Nearest city: San Carlos de Bariloche, Río Negro Province
For over a century, locals around Nahuel Huapi Lake in Patagonia have spoken of Nahuelito, a massive, serpentine lake monster often likened to Scotland’s Nessie. Reports go back to the early 1900s, with witnesses describing a long, humped creature or plesiosaur-like form breaking the surface. In the 1960s, the Argentine Navy reportedly investigated after repeated sightings, but no official explanation was given. Photos from the 1990s and modern tourist accounts describe huge wakes and dark shapes beneath the water
