Nguoi Rung – Vietnam

Nguoi Rung – Vietnam

Nearest city: Truong Son Mountains, Kon Tum Province

The Nguoi Rung, meaning “Forest People”, is Vietnam’s version of Bigfoot, reported for centuries in the remote Truong Son (Annamite) Mountains near the Laos border. Witnesses describe a large, hairy biped, often over 6 feet tall, with long arms, a heavy brow, and a pungent odor. During the Vietnam War, both Viet Cong and American troops claimed encounters, including reports of red-haired, ape-like creatures crossing jungle trails. In the 1970s–80s, Vietnamese scientists investigated alleged footprints and hair samples, though no proof was conclusive. Sightings into the 2000s, often by hunters or villagers —keep the legend alive, placing the Nguoi Rung firmly within Southeast Asia’s enduring “wild man” traditions.
