Hidden in the woods near Bear Creek lies a 40-foot barren circle where, legend says, the Devil himself paces each night. Nothing will grow within the circle, and items left inside are often found hurled outside by morning. For more than 100 years, campers have reported hearing footsteps circling their tents, seeing glowing red eyes, and feeling a heavy, oppressive presence. Folklore holds that this is where the Devil “tramps” while plotting his mischief, though soil tests have offered no conclusive explanation. It remains one of the South’s most infamous paranormal sites.
