Sydney’s Central station – Australia
Nearest city: Sydney, New South Wales
Beneath Sydney’s busy Central Station lies a network of disused tunnels, some dating back to the 1920s when grand plans for underground platforms were abandoned. Known as the “ghost platforms” or St James tunnels, these dark corridors are rumored to be haunted. Workers and explorers have reported footsteps echoing in empty shafts, shadowy figures moving through the disused platforms, and sudden drops in temperature. The most persistent tale is of a ghostly railway worker who appears in the tunnels, seen in the corner of one’s eye before vanishing into the brickwork. Although closed to the public, occasional heritage tours fuel their reputation as one of Sydney’s creepiest hidden sites.
