Case Overview

What happened at So Lo Pun?

Known as the “Lock Up the Basin” village, So Lo Pun is a mysterious, abandoned settlement in the remote New Territories of Hong Kong that is famously avoided by local hikers. The village earned its name from the legendary phenomenon of compasses spinning uncontrollably or failing entirely upon entry, which many attribute to a localized geomagnetic anomaly or supernatural interference. According to chilling local lore, the village was abandoned overnight in the early 20th century after an entire wedding party was wiped out in a boat accident, while other versions claim the residents simply “vanished” during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Visitors frequently report sighting spectral “wedding guests” wandering the dense overgrowth and hearing disembodied voices echoing from the decaying, yet strangely well-preserved, ancestral halls.
