Case Overview
What happened at Robert Doll?
Housed at the East Martello Museum, Robert the Doll is one of America’s most notorious haunted artifacts. Belonging originally to artist Robert Eugene Otto in the early 1900s, the doll was reportedly made by the Steiff Company in Germany and dressed in a sailor’s uniform. Locals claim it could move, change expression, and even speak in Otto’s childhood home — now the Artist House, where guests still report laughter and footsteps from empty rooms. At the museum, visitors insist Robert causes electronic malfunctions and misfortune to anyone who photographs him without permission; the walls around his display are lined with thousands of apology letters.
