Once the administrative heart of the Zaubererjackl witch trials (1675–1690), Moosham oversaw interrogations, torture and executions—139 people were put to death, unusually with a male majority and many children among the victims. Today it’s a museum whose most-talked-about rooms include a preserved torture chamber; staff and visitors report phantom footsteps, cold spots and the feeling of unseen hands in the cellars.
