The Mapinguari is a legendary giant ground-sloth-like cryptid, described as standing upright with long claws, backward-facing feet, and a stench so strong it can overwhelm hunters. Said to roam the deepest parts of the Amazon, it is feared for its roar that echoes through the forest and has been reported for generations by Indigenous peoples, rubber tappers, and modern explorers. Cryptozoologists suggest it could be a surviving species of prehistoric sloth.
