One of the most feared creatures in Filipino folklore, the Manananggal is a vampiric, winged being said to separate its upper body from its lower half and fly into the night to hunt. Legends describe it preying on pregnant women, using a long tongue to drain the life from unborn children, while the abandoned lower torso must be destroyed to defeat it. Though folkloric, modern sightings and stories persist across the Visayas, with locals still reporting strange shadows in the sky and eerie flapping wings at night.
