On June 24, 1947, pilot Kenneth Arnold reported seeing nine crescent-shaped craft near Mount Rainier, coining the phrase “flying saucer.” More recently, 2024 MUFON data shows 168 sightings within 30 miles of the mountain and over 7,200 UAP reports statewide, including webcam captures of anomalous shapes above the Paradise area. Today the region remains under active UAP monitoring, with pilots, hikers and webcams logging triangular craft, pulsing orbs, and sudden radar anomalies in the skies over the southern slopes.
