German Girl Shrine – Singapore
Nearest city: Pulau Ubin
Hidden along a forest path on Pulau Ubin, the Haunted Barbie Doll Shrine was built to honor the spirit of a young girl said to have died in a tragic accident on the island in the 1910s. Locals claim her father dreamt of her years later, guiding him to the spot and asking for a shrine so her soul could rest. Originally housing traditional Taoist offerings, the shrine now centers around a Barbie doll dressed in a red gown — a modern replacement that visitors continue to bring gifts to, including makeup, toys, and sweets. Some report the doll’s eyes appear to shift or glow at night, and offerings left unattended have been found rearranged by morning. It remains one of Singapore’s most unusual and enduring spirit sites, blending faith, folklore, and pop culture.
