Opened in 1929, the Fairmont Royal York was once the tallest building in the British Empire and remains Toronto’s grandest historic hotel. Behind its luxury lies a reputation for hauntings that span decades. The 8th floor is particularly notorious, guests report disembodied voices, phantom knocks on doors and the apparition of a spectral man in a purple jacket pacing the corridor. Elsewhere, ghostly children are said to run laughing through the halls, and the grand ballroom hosts phantom footsteps long after midnight. Staff also whisper about a man who vanishes into locked service areas.
