Eltz Castle – Germany
Nearest city: Wierschem, Rhineland-Palatinate

One of the few German castles never destroyed by war, Eltz is protected by the ghost of Countess Agnes, who died defending the castle from a scorned suitor. Her spirit is said to haunt her former bedroom, where her original breastplate still hangs; guests report the armor rattling violently when “dishonorable” men enter the room. The “Knight’s Hall” is a hotspot for residual hauntings, with the clank of phantom mail and hushed, medieval German conversations echoing after hours. Modern sightings include a spectral “Gatekeeper” seen standing on the bridge at midnight, dissolving into mist when approached. The castle’s high preservation seems to have trapped its history, with “looping” apparitions of servants seen in the kitchen area.
