Dingonek – Kenya
Nearest city: Magori River, Lake Victoria

First documented by big-game hunter John Alfred Jordan in 1907, this “Jungle Walrus” is described as a 14-to-15-foot predator with the scales of an armadillo, the head of a lion, and two downward-curving walrus tusks. Unlike more elusive cryptids, the Dingonek is noted for its extreme territorial aggression; Jordan famously fired a .303 rifle at one, only for the beast to shrug off the hit and submerge. Local Kavirondo folklore identifies it as a “water leopard” that haunts the river mouths, often blamed for the sudden disappearance of livestock and the wreckage of fishing boats. Modern activity includes 2022 reports from the Migori County border where locals documented massive, clawed “slide marks” leading from the reeds into the deep water. Cryptozoological footage often focuses on “wakes” in the Magori River that move against the current at unnatural speeds, consistent with a creature of immense power and weight.
