Château de Brissac – France
Nearest city: Brissac-Quincé, Loire Valley
Standing seven stories high, Château de Brissac is the tallest castle in France — and one of its most haunted. Its most famous ghost is the “Green Lady” (La Dame Verte), believed to be Charlotte de Brézé, murdered by her husband in the 15th century after an affair. Visitors and staff describe seeing her tall, green-clad apparition wandering the tower rooms and chapel, her face twisted into a horrifying, hollow void. Guests also report moaning and wailing through the night, especially in the tower bedrooms. Today the château is open to visitors, blending Renaissance grandeur with one of France’s most infamous hauntings.
