Walhalla – Australia
Nearest city: Walhalla, Victoria
Founded in 1863, the mountain town of Walhalla grew around the Long Tunnel Extended Gold Mine, once one of Australia’s richest. The mine closed in 1911, leaving behind deep shafts and tunnels that now draw paranormal investigators. Guides frequently reference James Mitchell, a miner killed in a collapse in the 1880s, whose presence is still reported near the lower galleries. Visitors describe a sense of pressure in the chest, muffled footsteps, and tapping on metal rails when the site is quiet. Across the town, activity has also been noted at the Star Hotel and Walhalla Cemetery, with multiple EVP captures over the past decade. Today, the preserved ghost town remains one of Victoria’s most documented haunted heritage sites.
