Selma, the Lake Serpent – Norway

Nearest city: Seljord Lake

Known locally as Seljordsormen (“Selma”), this legendary sea serpent often described as a long, humper-backed creature with a horse or crocodile-like head has been sighted in Lake Seljord since at least 1750. More than 500 eyewitness reports have been recorded over centuries, and even in the 1990s, scientific expeditions (like GUST 99) used sonar and ROVs to investigate. Today, Selma remains a living legend featured on Seljord’s coat of arms and still a topic of summer sightings.
