Route 666 (U.S. Route 491) – USA

Nearest city: Gallup, New Mexico

Once officially numbered Route 666, this highway through New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah earned the nickname the “Devil’s Highway.” Drivers reported phantom vehicles, black-clad hitchhikers, and packs of hellhounds chasing cars. Unexplained breakdowns and fatal crashes were so common that locals linked them to a curse. Due to its ominous reputation, the route was renumbered as U.S. 491 in 2003, but paranormal reports continue. Ghost tours still refer to it by its infamous old name, cementing its place in American road lore.
