Mount Nyangani – Zimbabwe
Nearest city: Nyanga, Manicaland

Zimbabwe’s highest peak, Mount Nyangani, has long been feared by the Shona and Manyika peoples as a gateway to the spirit world, where travellers vanish without trace. Since the 1970s, witnesses have reported glowing discs and vertical beams of light descending into its mist-filled ravines, inspiring theories of a hidden alien base. In the 1980s, the site appeared in CIA-linked remote-viewing tasking lists as a “possible non-human underground structure” in southern Africa. Local authorities attribute the lights to ngozi spirits and treacherous weather, but modern researchers continue to record electromagnetic fluctuations around the summit. The combination of legend, loss, and classified curiosity keeps Mount Nyangani among Africa’s most enduring enigmas.
