Mel’s Hole is an infamous urban legend from the outskirts of Ellensburg, made famous by a 1997 call-in to the radio show Coast to Coast AM. According to the story, the hole is said to be bottomless, with bizarre properties—objects dropped inside never making a sound, animals reportedly returning from the dead and strange beams of light emanating from its depths. No physical evidence of the hole has ever been found, but it’s legend endures as one of America’s most mysterious unsolved tales.
