For more than a century, glowing orbs have been reported flickering across the desert outside Marfa. First documented by cowboys in the 1880s, the lights appear as bright red, white, or blue spheres that split apart, merge together, and hover before vanishing. Locals built an official Marfa Lights Viewing Area along Highway 90, where visitors still gather nightly hoping to glimpse them. While skeptics suggest car headlights or atmospheric mirages, sightings long predate modern roads, and no scientific study has fully explained the phenomenon.
