Nearest city: Mbandaka, Équateur Province

The J’ba Fofi, or “giant spider,” is said to inhabit the dense rainforests of the Congo Basin. Described by locals as a massive arachnid with a leg span reaching up to 5 feet, it is believed to weave enormous webs across game trails, ensnaring prey as large as small antelope. Reports from missionaries and hunters in the early 20th century recount encounters with enormous spider-like creatures, and sightings occasionally surface from remote villages. While skeptics suggest misidentified tarantulas or folklore exaggeration, the J’ba Fofi continues to fuel cryptozoological expeditions and online speculation, often featured in modern documentaries and podcasts.
