Glamis Castle – Scotland

Nearest city: Angus

Seat of the Bowes-Lyon family and childhood home of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, Glamis Castle is steeped in centuries of ghost lore. Among its most famous spirits is the Monster of Glamis, a deformed heir hidden away in the castle, said to haunt its secret rooms. Visitors also report the Grey Lady, thought to be Lady Janet Douglas, burned as a witch in 1537, who drifts through the chapel. Other tales include a ghostly man endlessly playing cards with the Devil in a sealed chamber, phantom footsteps in the hallways, and disembodied voices in the towers. With its mix of royal history and enduring mysteries, Glamis is often called Scotland’s most haunted castle.
