Fengdu Ghost City – China
Nearest city: Fengdu, Chongqing
Perched on Ming Mountain above the Yangtze River, Fengdu Ghost City has been a center of Chinese afterlife mythology for over 2,000 years. Built during the Han dynasty, its temples and shrines depict the journey of souls through the underworld, including the “Bridge of Helplessness” where spirits are judged. Tourists and monks report apparitions, whispers, and sudden cold winds near the infamous “Ghost Gate”, where legend says only the pure of heart may pass unharmed. Even today, night visitors describe eerie shadows moving across the carved statues, cementing its reputation as China’s most haunted city.
