High above the village of Čachtice stand the ruins of the fortress once ruled by Countess Elizabeth Báthory—remembered in folklore as the “Blood Countess.” Locals say her victims’ screams still echo through the stone vaults where she carried out her crimes, and visitors have reported cold bursts of air, flickering lights, and the figure of a woman in crimson drifting through the courtyard at night. Paranormal teams filming on-site have captured unexplained audio spikes and faint silhouettes moving near the dungeon walls, keeping Čachtice Castle one of Europe’s most infamous haunted ruins.
