Case Overview

What happened at Bunnyman’s Bridge?

Officially known as the Colchester Overpass, this small railway bridge in Fairfax County is infamous for the legend of the “Bunnyman.” Stories trace back to the early 20th century, when an escaped asylum inmate in a rabbit costume was said to attack passersby with an axe. Over time, the tale grew into a staple of Virginia folklore: a figure in a bunny suit haunting the bridge at night, blamed for mutilated animals and threatening encounters. Paranormal investigators and thrill seekers report cold spots, disembodied footsteps, and strange scratching sounds on the bridge. The Bunnyman legend has inspired horror films, novels, and annual Halloween pilgrimages, making the bridge one of America’s strangest modern folklore sites.
