Bron y Garth Hospital

Perched above the Dwyryd Estuary, Bron y Garth Hospital was established in 1839 as the Ffestiniog Union Workhouse, later serving as an asylum and geriatric hospital before closing in 2009. Behind its ivy-choked stone walls linger more than a century of confinement and loss: paupers, patients, and psychiatric inmates all passed through its wards. Urban explorers report whispers in the collapsed corridors, doors slamming without wind, and fleeting figures in nurses’ uniforms at the end of the main hall. Locals speak of a weeping woman seen in the former maternity wing and lights flickering in the tower long after power was cut. Paranormal teams have captured sudden EMF spikes and disembodied voices calling names in Welsh.
