Established circa 1860, the Ball Cemetery is a remote, historic burial ground that serves as a focal point for paranormal research in the Great Plains. While many rural graveyards exhibit residual energy, Ball Cemetery is distinguished by reports of highly interactive and often physical phenomena. This site is less a “recording” of the past and more an active “liminal interface” between visitors and the long-deceased residents of early Springfield. Researchers and local law enforcement have documented hundreds of anomalous encounters. The most prominent entity is “The Tall Man,” a menacing, shadowy figure described as standing over seven feet tall, which is frequently seen lurking near the older, peripheral headstones and is known to physically confront trespassers. Conversely, auditory phenomena- specifically the sound of a laughing child and disembodied whispers echoing in the absence of wind, pointing to a complex, multi-layered haunting where distinct intelligence seems to respond to the presence of the living.
