Kings Island Theme Park – USA
Nearest city: Mason, Ohio

Opened in 1972 on land once marred by a deadly munitions plant explosion, Kings Island functions as a strange intersection of modern thrill-seeking and deep-rooted historical trauma. The park was built around the Dog Street Cemetery, a small 19th-century burial ground that still sits just outside the main gates; creating a unique environment where guest parking lots and roller coaster footings overlap with forgotten graves. The most enduring figure is “Missouri Jane,” a young girl in a period-accurate blue dress believed to be a resident of the cemetery, who is frequently seen wandering the parking admissions area or darting between cars after dusk. Within the park’s neon-lit corridors, the energy becomes more specific and tragic. Employees often speak of “Tower Johnny,” the spirit of a teenager who met a gruesome end in an elevator shaft of the park’s Eiffel Tower replica in 1983; he is blamed for inexplicable electrical failures and sensors tripping in empty rooms. Meanwhile, near the Racer roller coaster, sightings of a young boy in white often called “Racer Boy” point to a more localized haunting, with many believing the spirit is attached to vintage ride cars brought over from the defunct Coney Island. From the disembodied laughter echoing in the International Restaurant to the heavy, watchful presence felt at the White Water Canyon towers, Kings Island stands as a premier example of how high-energy commercial spaces can inadvertently act as a playground for the long-deceased.
