Case Overview
What happened at Annabelle Doll?
The infamous Annabelle doll became a cornerstone of modern American haunting lore after being investigated by paranormal researchers Ed and Lorraine Warren in the early 1970s. The doll, a vintage Raggedy Ann, was reportedly gifted to a nursing student who claimed it moved on its own and left handwritten notes saying “Help me.” A psychic medium told the students the doll was inhabited by the spirit of a deceased girl named Annabelle Higgins, although the Warrens later asserted it was a demonic entity masquerading as a child. Annabelle was sealed in a glass case at the Warrens’ Occult Museum, labeled “Warning: Positively Do Not Open.” The museum has since closed, but the doll remains in the Warren family’s custody, occasionally displayed during events, and continues to inspire films and investigations into haunted objects.
