Local folklore says the pass was once used as an execution ground, where travelers and criminals were beheaded, their bodies left behind in the forest. Even today, hikers report phantom screams, headless apparitions, and the sound of blades striking in the night air. Some claim to feel watched or chased by unseen presences while crossing. With its gruesome history and eerie atmosphere, Kubikiri Pass is considered one of Shikoku’s most haunted spots.
