The Mogollon Monster is Arizona’s version of Bigfoot, said to roam the pine forests along the Mogollon Rim. Witnesses describe a 7-foot-tall, hairy humanoid with glowing red eyes and a foul stench. Sightings date back to the early 1900s, with modern reports from campers and hunters who claim the creature screams and throws rocks to drive people from its territory. Though skeptics suggest misidentifications of bears, the Mogollon Monster remains one of the Southwest’s most enduring wilderness legends.
