Napier Prison – New Zealand
Nearest city: Napier, Hawke’s Bay
Built in 1862, Napier Prison is New Zealand’s oldest prison and once held murderers, thieves, and even conscientious objectors. Now a tourist attraction, it is notorious for ghostly footsteps echoing down empty corridors, cell doors slamming shut on their own, and apparitions of former inmates. Visitors on night tours also report sudden cold spots and whispers in the isolation cells.
