Built in 1915 to treat tuberculosis patients, the Duran Sanatorium later served as an orphanage and asylum before being abandoned in the 1970s. Its decaying wards are now a hotspot for paranormal reports: visitors speak of a nun’s ghost wandering the halls, shadowy children peering from empty rooms, and sudden drops in temperature. Local legends say the restless souls of patients never left, making it Costa Rica’s most notorious haunted site.
