Castle of Good Hope – South Africa
Nearest city: Cape Town
Built by the Dutch East India Company in the 1660s, this star-shaped fortress is South Africa’s oldest colonial building and one of its most haunted. Guards have reported the Lady in Grey for over two centuries, once seen weeping and running through the bastions before vanishing into walls. A tall shadowy figure is also said to pace the ramparts at night, and visitors sometimes hear phantom footsteps echoing down empty stone passages.
