Recommended Paranormal Equipment | The Unknown Quest
Field Guide // Equipment File 01

Investigate the unknown. Document the evidence.

A considered equipment guide for curious first-timers, experienced investigators and established teams—built around useful data, controlled methods and kit you can actually carry into the field.

Three experience levels UK + US options No evidence claims
Choose by experience—not hype

The right tool is the one you can use well.

Expensive equipment does not make evidence stronger. Repeatable technique, clean baseline readings and careful notes do. Start simple, learn the limitations of every device, then add specialist tools only when your investigation method demands them.

Provenance matters

Built, adapted or field-tested?

We identify the people and projects behind the kit. Some devices were created specifically for paranormal work; others are ordinary recording or measurement tools adopted by investigators.

Every investigation // Core field gear

The equipment that gets everybody home.

Evidence is secondary to the team. Every field pack should cover footing, first aid, independent light, power, water, food, warmth, notes and a route home. Add satellite communication only when the site is genuinely beyond reliable mobile coverage.

This same baseline applies in a locked building, at a skywatch site or in remote woodland; adjust it to the terrain, weather, local law and your team’s medical needs.

01. Extra food + waterNo-cook, high-energy food and water beyond the planned return time.
02. Notebook + pencilAll-weather notes, contacts, medical details and route or vehicle locations.
03. Fire + shelterLighter or waterproof matches plus an emergency bivvy; fire only where lawful and safe.
04. Wildlife planUse authority-recommended deterrents only where lawful; animal spray is not universal kit.
Animal spray is not a universal recommendation: In bear country, follow the relevant park or wildlife authority on whether to carry bear spray and learn to use it safely. UK pepper, CS and other self-defence sprays are prohibited weapons; do not carry or import them. A whistle, personal alarm, group travel and species-specific avoidance guidance are safer legal defaults. BearWise guidance ↗ UK prohibited goods guidance ↗
Field protocol

Evidence begins before the first alert.

Use every product as a measuring instrument, not an answer machine. A compelling event is one that survives careful review, has context from more than one source and cannot be reproduced under ordinary conditions.

01. BaselineLog normal readings first.
02. ControlTrack people and interference.
03. CorroborateUse independent devices.
04. PreserveKeep untouched originals.
