Hassayampa Inn

Opened in 1927 on Gurley Street in downtown Prescott, the Hassayampa Inn has long carried one of Arizona’s best-known hotel ghost legends. Its central spirit is Faith Summers, a young bride who, according to the story preserved by the inn and Historic Hotels of America, checked in with her older husband during the hotel’s opening year. He supposedly went out to buy cigarettes and never returned, leaving Faith to wait for three days before dying in despair. Since then, staff and guests have described a young woman crying at the end of a bed, appearing in a pink gown in the corridor, vanishing from rooms, and carrying flowers in her hands. The activity is not confined to visual sightings: witnesses have reported cold spots in her honeymoon suite, the scent of flowers in empty rooms, missing personal items, and kitchen burners going out without warning. The epicentre of the haunting is usually given as Grand Balcony Suite 426, where knocks, fallen decorations, and lights, radios, televisions, taps and fixtures switching on by themselves have all been reported. Recent stories carried by the inn continue that pattern, including guests waking to the sense of someone embracing them in the dark.
