Situated at a dark bend in the Danube, this cemetery holds the remains of unidentified drowning victims washed ashore between 1840 and 1940. The restless energy of the “Unknown Dead” creates a heavy, somber atmosphere where visitors report being touched by “wet, cold hands” near the river wall. The most famous resident is Little Hansel, a young boy whose grave is often found covered in modern toys that are later found rearranged or moved to the river’s edge. Local fishermen refuse to pass the cemetery at night, claiming to see “Blue Lanterns” (Will-o’-the-Wisps) floating over the crosses. Modern recordings have captured numerous “Class A” EVPs in multiple languages, suggesting the spirits are still searching for their identities.
