Grafton Monster – USA
Nearest city: Grafton, West Virginia

First sighted in June 1964 by journalist Robert Cockrell, this 7-to-9-foot behemoth is described as a headless, broad-shouldered entity with “slick, seal-like” skin. Unlike many hairy cryptids, the Grafton Monster is known for a haunting, low-frequency whistling sound that precedes its appearance near the Tygart Valley River. Modern activity includes reports of a “white obstruction” seen crouching by the roadside on Route 119, with witnesses noting its unnatural, rhythmic “bellowing” from the deep brush. Recent footage from local expeditions highlights “trampled grass circles” and high-interference audio recordings captured near its original sighting location. The creature’s lack of a visible head and its massive, 4-foot-wide frame make it one of the most physically imposing and distinct entities in Appalachian folklore.
