Hachioji Castle – Japan
Nearest city: Hachioji, Tokyo Metropolis

The site of a brutal 1590 massacre during the Sengoku period, these ruins are said to be haunted by the spirits of the Hojo clan women and samurai who committed mass ritual suicide in the castle’s waterfall. Locals claim the water of the “Hojo Falls” still turns blood-red on the anniversary of the battle, accompanied by the sounds of clashing swords and phantom screams. Hikers frequently report seeing armored apparitions in the dense forest or feeling a heavy, oppressive energy near the crumbling stone foundations. It is widely considered one of Japan’s most active spiritual sites, where the trauma of the past is said to remain deeply etched into the landscape.
