Urban legends frequently reference sightings of a mother and teenage daughter apparition linked to later tragedies, along with reports of shadow figures in corridor junctions, crying sounds, and figures seen looking down into the central courtyard void late at night. Over the decades, the largely under-occupied blocks and their unusual enclosed architecture — long echoing corridors, identical stairwells, and a central hollow courtyard — reinforced stories that the site felt “watched” or oppressive, especially on upper floors. Additional rumours circulated that the complex was used at various times as a quarantine site, worker housing, or controlled-use facility, further amplifying its mystique in Singaporean urban folklore and modern exploration videos.
