Himuro Mansion – Japan
Nearest city: Hashimoto, Wakayama
Himuro Mansion is one of Japan’s most infamous urban legend sites, described as a remote shrine-house where the Himuro family allegedly carried out the Strangling Ritual (Himuro Shikei)—a failed blood sacrifice meant to keep a gate between worlds sealed. According to the legend, the ritual went wrong, leading to the violent slaughter of the entire family. The location is now commonly associated with a rural area of Wakayama Prefecture, and modern explorers claim to capture EVPs, shadow figures, and oppressive sensations, while sceptics argue the site’s fame was amplified by the Fatal Frame (Project Zero) video game series rather than documented history.
