Tat Tak School – Hong Kong
Nearest city: Ping Shan, Yuen Long
Tat Tak School is a former public village primary school founded in 1931, moved into its U-shaped 2-storey campus in 1965, and closed in 1998, later becoming Hong Kong’s most infamous “haunted school.” The haunting lore isn’t just one tale: stories cluster around the hillside being a war-era burial ground (1899 Six-Day War / 1941 Japanese occupation), the “woman in red” associated with a toilet stall, and repeated reports of footsteps/whispers and a long-haired teacher apparition seen by night visitors and war-game/urbex groups. Urban explorers also claim “school echoes” like children’s chatter/laughter and movement in empty classrooms, which is part of why the site has become a repeat magnet for investigations and media features.
