In the late 20th century it became known online as the “Mother of Darkness,” featuring heavily in conspiracy and occult narratives connected to elite secrecy and the wider Dutroux-era moral panic. Its isolation, restricted access, and lack of clear public information have fuelled modern urban-legend status, making it one of Belgium’s most infamous “forbidden” locations discussed in investigative forums and documentaries.
