Dogtown – USA

Nearest city: Gloucester, Massachusetts

Established in the 1600s and abandoned by the early 1800s, Dogtown is a ruined colonial settlement now overgrown with forest, boulders, and moss-covered cellar holes—long associated with witchcraft and strange occurrences. The most infamous figure is Thomazine “Tammy” Younger, known locally as “the Queen of the Witches,” who was accused of cursing livestock and demanding tolls from travelers; her spirit is said to linger along the old cart paths. Hikers report growls and the sound of unseen animals pacing them through the woods, along with shadowy figures darting between the glacial erratics. Several of the numbered boulders—carved in the 1930s—are linked to sightings of glowing lights and a tall, dark figure seen standing atop “Whale’s Jaw” before vanishing.
