Old Sheldon Church – USA
Nearest city: Yemassee, South Carolina
Built in 1751 as Prince William’s Parish Church, the Old Sheldon Church now stands in haunting ruin amid moss-draped oaks between Beaufort and Yemassee. Burned during the Revolutionary War, rebuilt, and then destroyed again in the Civil War, the site has become a focal point for apparitions and residual hauntings tied to centuries of loss. Visitors report shadowy figures among the columns, horse hooves on empty roads, and a woman in colonial dress who appears near the cemetery gates. Some locals say her ghost guards the tomb of Colonel William Bull, the church’s founder, who helped design Savannah’s original city plan. The stillness of the ruins has earned it a reputation as one of the most beautiful and eeriest places in the American South.
