Trunyan Cemetery – Indonesia

On the remote eastern shore of Lake Batur, Trunyan Village is home to the Bali Aga, who continue an ancient burial practice unlike anywhere else in Indonesia. The dead are not cremated but laid on bamboo platforms beneath the sacred taru menyan tree, whose natural fragrance masks decomposition. The site, known as Setra Trunyan, is accessible only by boat and regarded as spiritually charged by both locals and visitors. Paranormal researchers from Komunitas Misteri Nusantara have reported EVP anomalies and temperature drops recorded near the burial grounds after dusk, often coinciding with the rustling of the tree’s branches when no wind is present. Boat guides have also described seeing mist-like forms moving between the bamboo shrines when the lake surface is still.
