The Mizpah Hotel – USA
Nearest city: Tonopah, Nevada
Opened in 1907 during Nevada’s silver boom, the Mizpah Hotel was once the most luxurious stop between Reno and Las Vegas and now is one of the state’s most haunted. Guests report encounters with “The Lady in Red,” a spirit believed to be a prostitute murdered on the fifth floor by a jealous lover. She’s known to whisper men’s names, brush their shoulders, and leave behind the scent of rose perfume. Other phenomena include phantom children playing in the hallways, doors slamming on their own, and shadow figures near the elevators. Restored and reopened in 2011, the Mizpah embraces its haunted reputation as “the Jewel of the Desert — and home to a few unregistered guests.”
