Kuldhara Ghost Village – India
Nearest city: Jaisalmer, Rajasthan
Once a prosperous settlement of Paliwal Brahmins in the Thar Desert, Kuldhara was mysteriously abandoned overnight in the early 1800s. Legend says a local minister, Salim Singh, tried to force himself on the village chief’s daughter, prompting the villagers to flee under cover of darkness, cursing the land so that no one could ever live there again. To this day, the ruins remain empty, with visitors reporting shadowy figures, phantom footsteps in the sand, and the sound of carts and voices drifting on the desert wind. Archaeologists note no signs of violence, deepening the mystery. Now maintained as a heritage site, Kuldhara draws ghost hunters and tourists alike, who swear its curse still lingers after dark.
